Creating for Creators: Tooth & Nail
At the beginning of this year, we moved into our new studio in Marrickville. The location is awesome and the space bathes in tonnes of natural light. The most fantastic thing about our new office, though, is that we get to share it with our good friends at Tooth & Nail. Get your hair cut at this new barber shop in Sydney’s Inner West and visit us upstairs.
The Tooth & Nail Story
Three close friends Daniel Blakemore, Connor Keighran and Jake de Varine-Bohan have combined together to create a barber shop filled with stacks of rustic charm. This is a relaxed and friendly salon, where you can grab a beer with your cut. The two hairdressers Dan and Connor are specialists in both men’s and women’s hair. The boys offer standard and buzz cuts, beard trims, wet shaves and also a kid’s cut for all the little ones. Tooth & Nail is a space where an Australian garden shed meets old-school Americana. All timber in the shop is recycled and locally-sourced and the main workbench once had a previous life in the Australian Railways.
“We wanted to create a space that you feel welcome to just hang out and grab a drink. No purchase necessary,” Dan says. So don’t worry if your locks aren’t in need of taming just yet. Pull up a seat at the wooden bench inside and just have a chat. Actually, maybe one thing that you can purchase is a 20c comb from Tooth & Nail’s very cool vintage dispenser.
Paste Studios for Tooth & Nail
We were asked to help design all the branding for this Sydney barber shop with instructions to keep everything looking as clean and simple as possible. Dan and Connor opted for a classic text style logo in an eye-catching black and gold combination. The pair wanted to stay clear of generic hairdressing motifs such as combs and scissors. In addition to this, Paste Studios was in charge of all the photography for the salon’s launch. The photos now live on Tooth & Nail’s Facebook page and Instagram account.
The refreshing new-world-meets-old-world barber shop in Sydney’s humble Marrickville may be the new kid on the block, but this place has been completely booked out since it opened! Good on ya, boys! We think it’s awesome when the local community supports small business and that’s exactly what’s happening here.
